SLIP into spring’s new shoes trend: decorative mules. The classic backless shoe has had a luxurious makeover for the new season, adorned with intricate gold beading at Oscar de la Renta, slick stripes at Fendi and golden brocade at Rochas.

Mega Mules

  • Look to Miu Miu for inspiration on how to wear your mules – the fashion house showed the shoe in an array of colours and in satin, patent leather and velvet.
  • Oscar de la Renta presented the season’s most decorative designs – covered in intricate jewels and gems.
  • Although mules are most commonly closed-toe – and have been since their rise to popularity in the 18th Century – Rochas and Fendi both opted for open-toe designs for spring/summer 2012.
  • Louis Vuitton matched its candy pastel collection to pointed mules with metallic straps and silver toes, while Miu Miu showed the style in everything from sumptuous red velvet to colour block satin and bright patent leather.
